Mega

Cara's husband worked on the motorboat, Mega, which undertook its maiden voyage on 13 April 1991. It was equipped to mine diamonds from the seabed with 2 x 8 inch suction pipes and had a crew of 6. While in service diamonds of approximately 2000 carats per year were mined from Mega.

On 8 April 1999 Mega sank in Doring Bay Harbour. The sea destroyed a large part of the boat. After it sank the owners donated the front part of Mega to the van Wyks of the “Cabin Restaurant.
