Out of the simplest meals comes the sweetest tastes, a few herbs and spices, some fresh fish and voila ... a meal a la cabin.

Elize van Wyk opened “Cabin for Seafood and Grills” 20 years ago. Today the reputation of the cooking by Elize and her daughter, Cara, has them mentioned in many tourism publications locally and abroad. The Restaurant specialises in Seafood, cooked by Elize and Cara themselves.

They offer you delicious seafood and meat dishes with a bottle of chilled local wine in a relaxed smoke free atmosphere. The restaurant is fully licensed and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For your own convenience, please book in advance. Smokers can be accommodated in the Pub area.

There is a large variety of seafood but we cater for meat lovers as well. For seafood connoisseurs the Seafood soup and Calamari steaks proved to be the most popular dishes on the menu while Spare Ribs are still the most delicious dish for those who prefer meat.

The Restaurant also caters for groups, weddings, year-end functions, bus tours etc and can accommodate up to 50 people. Depending on the weather you can book the deck for up to 30 people. For group bookings the Restaurant offers fish or meat braai's (barbeque) or buffets in addition to the a la Carte menu.

“Cabin Restaurant” has a breathtaking view of the sea and you can watch glorious sunsets while you eat. From July to November migrating whales can be seen from the restaurant.

On lonely winter nights Elize and her staff await you with home cooked soup and fresh warm bread, prepared on the old fashion stove from days gone by.

Some of the decor was collected from shipwrecks, which add a lot of character to the cosy interior of the restaurant by giving it a distinct marine theme. Some of the woodwork in the restaurant consists of the pillars of the previous jetty from the harbour, which is more than 50 years old.

The restaurant proved to be a tourist attraction and what makes it unique is the deck with its wonderful history.

Cara's husband worked on the motorboat, Mega, which undertook its maiden voyage on 13 April 1991. It was equipped to mine diamonds from the seabed with 2 x 8 inch suction pipes and had a crew of 6. While in service diamonds of approximately 2000 carats per year were mined from Mega.

On 8 April 1999 Mega sank in Doring Bay Harbour. The sea destroyed a large part of the boat. After it sank the owners donated the front part of Mega to the van Wyks of the “Cabin Restaurant
